3 Crucial Steps To Take Before You Hand Over Your Smartphone For Repair
While we use our smartphones with utmost care, it is possible that you may end up damaging it. Some damage can be extensive, involving you to hand over your device to a Service Center for repairs.
But there are a few steps that need to be followed before you actually hand over your smartphone to the service center.
1. Remove your SIM card
This may seem obvious but worth stating nevertheless. It is a good practice to keep the SIM ejector tool handy exactly for such situations when you need to hand over your device. You can use your existing SIM card in any other smartphone, even if you’re switching from iPhone to Android (or vice-versa).
2. Remove security locks
If there is a PIN, pattern lock or fingerprint authentication involved, then you’d want to disable it. This will allow the technicians working on your phone to easily test the performance of your phone, once they believe they have fixed everything.
For Android users: Go to Settings -> Security & lock screen -> Lock screen and then remove the PIN, pattern lock or any other stumbling block that you have added.
For iPhone users: You need to turn off the Passcode. Go to Settings -> Touch ID & Passcode. On devices without Touch ID, go to Settings -> Passcode. If you have an iPhone X, go to Settings -> Face ID & Passcode.
3. Backup & Reset
If you have sensitive data on your device, then you can reset it before handing it over. Be sure to take a full back up of your Android and/or iOS device before you go any further. However, also ensure you keep a note of your phone’s IMEI and Serial number details with you. This ensures peace of mind if you suspect foul play while submitting your phone for repair. For iPhone users, go to Settings -> General -> About. Android users can go to Settings -> About Phone to make a note of serial number and IMEI details.
